Your Audition
Recording and Submitting Your Video Audition and Interview
Auditions are through video submission. Please adhere to the following instructions for your video audition and interview questions.
Part 1: The Interview
We want to get to know you better before we watch your video audition so please start your video by answering the following four questions:
1) Tell us your name and what you intend to major in at TLU. If you plan to major in music, let us know if you hope to pursue music education, music performance, or a more general music degree. If you plan to major in another academic area and are interested in participating in band, choir, or orchestra, please tell us more about your academic interest area.
2) What is it that you hope to do with your degree?
3) What attracts you to TLU?
4) Who is your musical inspiration and how did they inspire you?
Part 2: The Audition
Audition Materials should showcase you at your best within contrasting styles
.
Vocal and Choral Audition
: Two contrasting, memorized pieces that demonstrate your musical strengths – one selection in a foreign language and one selection in English. It is recommended that at least one piece represent repertoire appropriate for All-State and/or UIL.
Strings Audition
: Two contrasting selections, one slow and lyrical and one faster and more technical, and a memorized two octave scale, ascending and descending. All-state audition material, etudes, or appropriate solo material are encouraged.
Winds Audition
: Two contrasting selections, one slow and lyrical and one faster and more technical, and a memorized chromatic scale, ascending and descending. All-state audition material, etudes, and appropriate solo material are encouraged.
Percussion Audition
: Two selections, one on either timpani or snare, and one on marimba (4-mallet encouraged, 2-mallet acceptable). All-state audition material, etudes, and appropriate solo material are encouraged.
Piano Audition
: Two selections of contrasting style and time period. Memorization is encouraged but not required. In addition to performing your prepared repertoire, you may be asked to play scales or arpeggios.
Note
: If you are unable to record and submit an audition video, please email Prof. Beth Bronk at
bbronk@tlu
.edu to make audition arrangements.
Please note the title(s)/composer(s) you plan to use for your audition.
Part 3: Submitting Your Video Audition and Interview
Submit this scholarship audition application.
Record your video and confirm you have answered the four interview questions, performed two audition pieces, and mentioned the title and composer in your video.
Upload your video to a Google drive or other cloud storage (Dropbox, etc.) or post your video on YouTube as an unlisted video. Email the link to Prof. Beth Bronk at
